About Us

The Eparchy of Kothamangalam lies extended in Ernakulam and Idukki districts surrounded by the Archeparchy of Ernakulam-Angamaly, eparchies of Irinjalakuda, Idukki, and Pala.  This Eparchy was erected by His Holiness Pope Pius XII by separating the three foranes, Arakuzha, Kothamangalam, and Mailacombu of Ernakulam.  The bull of erection "Qui in beati Petri Cathedra" was promulgated on 29-07-1956 and the eparchy was inaugurated on 10-01-1957.

Mar Mathew Pothanamuzhi was the first bishop of the diocese and the first patron of this Educational agency.  The management of the schools of the diocese was re-organized in 1966.

Under the eminent leadership of Mar Mathew Pothanamuzhi, education in our diocese took a new turn.  Our bishop participated in the Vatican Council II, which was held in Rome from 1962-1964. The new educational vision of the Catholic Church was discussed in the Council.  With the new inspiration from the Council, our bishop gave special attention to the education of the children of our diocese.  With one Teacher Training Centre (T.T.C), 10 High Schools, 10 Upper Primary Schools, and 31 Lower Primary Schools, the diocese was giving educational facilities to its students.

On 10th July 1964, Newman College at Thodupuzha was inaugurated, which was the second arts college of the diocese, Nirmala College at Muvattupuzha being the first.

The second bishop of the diocese and second patron of this educational agency was Mar George Punnakottil.  Besides the development of schools, the inauguration of an Arts College at Murickassery was a great achievement of his time.  He himself named it "Pavanathma College".  It was by God`s grace that an Arts College could be started in a remote area of the High Ranges.  During his time, 15 Higher Secondary Schools were also allowed at different places of the diocese, of which 8 are now in the Idukki diocese.  To his credit goes also the beginning of the B.Ed. College at Mailacombu, which was later upgraded as M.Ed. College.   The bifurcation of the diocese (2003) and bifurcation of the Education Agency (2004) was during his time.

Our present patron of the Educational agency is Mar. George Madathikandathil.

Mission

Our vision is to prepare our students to understand, contribute to, and succeed in a rapidly changing society.  We tend to develop on the distinctive natural gifts they possess.  We help to generate practical and theoretical knowledge that enables them to better understand our world and improve conditions for local and global communities.  They need not only a retrospective wisdom of the past, but also a prospective foresight.  It is the passion for learning that makes a difference.  Because of the technological developments, the current generation has the richest repository of knowledge at their command.  We help them to improve their mental stability and all-around comfort.  Maturity in thinking is the need of the hour.
